Method 1: Via the Beta Maniac App
It’s simple to join the beta program of an Android app via the Play Store. But if you see a message on the app’s page that says, ‘The beta program is full,’ here’s a workaround.
Step 1: Download the Beta Maniac app from the Play Store.
Step 2: Launch the app and select Next. Sign in with your Google account when prompted.
Tip: Ensure you use the same account as the one logged into the Play Store on your phone.
Step 3: Use the search bar at the top of the screen to search for the app whose beta program you want to join. Select the app from the list of options.
Step 4: Now, tap on Become a tester.
Step 5: Go to the Play Store. You should see an update for the respective app. Update the app.
Note: If you encounter stability issues with certain apps, you can always roll back to the stable version by leaving the beta program.
Method 2: Via Installing an APK File
All Android apps have an APK file that can be installed manually without the Google Play Store. So, if the Beta version of an app isn’t available on the Play Store or the waitlist is full, download the APK file for that particular Beta version and install it. Here’s how.
Step 1: Go to APKMirror and search for the Beta version of the app you want to install. Tap on Download next to the result.
Step 2: Hit the download button once again, followed by the Download APK prompt one more time.
Step 3: If prompted, select Download anyway. Then, tap on the downloaded APK file to install it. You can then choose to Install or Update the app if you already have the standard version of it installed.
FAQs
Yes, installing a beta version of an app is entirely safe. You may encounter some bugs or app crashes from time to time, but they won’t harm your phone in any manner.
If you encounter issues with the beta version, simply uninstall the app, unenroll from the beta program, and reinstall it to return to the stable version.
Beta versions of apps generally get new features before the public version. So, if you want to test the latest additions to WhatsApp or Android Auto before everyone else, the beta version lets you do that.
