Why Can’t I Share My Facebook Post to Instagram

Quick Tips
  • If your Facebook post is private or restricted to limited friends, it can’t be shared on Instagram.
  • Sign out of your Facebook app and sign in again to get rid of bugs or glitches.
  • De-link and re-link your accounts to ensure Facebook posts are automatically shared on Instagram

Preliminary Checks Before Troubleshooting

  • Is the post private or restricted? – Facebook can only share posts set to Public or Friends with Instagram. So, ensure the post visibility is updated accordingly.
Check if both accounts are linked – In the Facebook app → Create post → Instagram icon → Accounts Centre. Ensure that your Instagram account is linked and post sharing is enabled.

Fix 1. Check Instagram and Facebook’s Server

If the Instagram/Facebook servers have an off day, you will face issues sharing Facebook posts to it. You can visit Downdetector and search for Instagram/Facebook. If others face the same problem, you will notice high outage graphs.

Wait for Meta to fix the issue from their end, and then you will see your Facebook posts appear on your Instagram feed.

Fix 2. Sign Out and Sign In to the Apps

To fix any bug or account settings issue, sign out from your current account and sign back in again.

Step 1: Open Facebook and tap the hamburger menu.

Step 2: Scroll down and select the Log out button. Quit the app.

Step 3: Open Facebook and Sign in using the same account.

You can apply the same trick to your Instagram account as well.

Step 1: Open Instagram on your phone and go to the accounts tab from the bottom.

Step 2: Tap the hamburger menu at the top. Select Settings.

Step 3: Log out from your Instagram account and sign in again.

Fix 3. Remove and Add Instagram Account on Facebook

You may have changed your Instagram password or enabled 2FA (two-factor authentication) for your account. Facebook might face issues while attempting to share your posts on Instagram. So, remove the current Instagram account and add it again.

Step 1: Go to the Create post menu on Facebook. Tap the Instagram icon at the top.

Step 2: Tap the Accounts Center and choose the Accounts and profiles menu.

Step 3: Select your Instagram account. Next, tap Remove from Accounts Center.

Step 4: Move to the previous menu and tap on Add accounts.

Add your Instagram account with new credentials, and you will be good to go.

Fix 4. Update Facebook App

An outdated Facebook app on your iPhone or Android might be the real culprit behind issues with Instagram sharing.

The company frequently releases new app builds to improve reliability and fix bugs. Head to the App Store or Google Play Store and update Facebook to the newest version.

Failing to share posts on Instagram may leave you with a broken workflow. Hopefully, you can now share Facebook posts on Instagram without hiccups.

  1. What about using the web browser instead of the mobile app?
I have my posts set to public and both accounts linked, but it doesn’t work.
