Method 1: Using the Google Drive App on a PC
Google Drive zips files only when you download them via a browser. If you use the Drive apps provided by Google, such a step is no longer required. People with regular accounts must use the Backup and Sync app, while business owners can download Drive File Stream.
The Google Drive app for PCs does not let you view the files in its interface. It creates a new folder on your PC that houses various files.
Step 1: Download the app.
Step 2: Double-click the downloaded file and follow the installation wizard to complete the process.
Step 3: Launch Google Drive. In this folder, you will find all the synced files from Drive. Now, copy or cut the files from this folder to the required folder on your PC.
Method 2: Using Image Downloader Extension
As the name suggests, this Image Downloader Chrome extension is for images only. It lets you download images in bulk, not only from Google Drive but also from all websites that have images.
To use this extension, follow these steps:
Step 1: Visit the Image Downloader extension page and click Add to Chrome.
Step 2: Once installed, an icon will be added to the Chrome extension bar. Now, open the Google Drive website and launch the folder from where you want to download images.
Step 3: Click on the Image Downloader extension. Scroll down to find all the images. Select the images > hit Download. You will get the downloads without it zipping on your PC.
Tip: You can use this extension for downloading pictures from Google Photos
Method 3: Download on Mobile
If you download multiple files from the Drive mobile app, Google Drive doesn’t create a ZIP folder. All files are downloaded separately and instantly. This workaround allows you to download files without zipping. Here’s how.
Step 1: Download and install Google Drive on Android or iPhone and launch the application.
Step 2: Navigate to the files you want to download > long-tap to select them > click the three dots at the top right corner > click Download.
You can use various methods to transfer these files to your PC. For instance, you can connect the phone via a USB cable and use file-sharing apps such as SHAREit, Xender, and Feem. You can even share it via FTP.
Method 4: Using Drive Multiple Downloader
Another way to achieve this is to use the Drive Multiple Downloader website. To use it, follow the steps below:
Step 1: Navigate to the Drive Multiple Downloader website.
Step 2: Sign in to your Google account on this website by tapping the Select files, folders, from Google Drive option. Select the files you want to download > hit Download All.
