Method 1: Using the Lock Icon When Recording
Even without a dedicated automatic mode, you can record videos hands-free using the lock feature. This way, once you’ve started the recording, you can lock the feature and let it record for up to 60 seconds on Snapchat without holding the record button. Here’s how to do it.
Step 1: Open Snapchat and long-press on the Camera button.
Step 2: Now, slide your finger over to the lock icon.
Once done, you can remove your finger, and Snapchat will continue to record the video. If you’re done before the 60-second mark, tap on the Stop button to stop the recording.

Method 2: Set a Timer to Record Hands-Free on Snapchat
Snapchat also allows you to set a timer. Once set, the timer will be triggered when you tap the Camera button. However, the maximum duration for the timer is 10 seconds. Beyond this, you might have to start the recording again. Here’s how to set up and use the timer on Snapchat.
Step 1: Open Snapchat and tap on the + icon. Scroll to Timer and tap on the + icon.
Step 2: Then, tap on the timer icon. Use the Video timer slider to set the duration of the timer.
Step 3: Once done, tap on Set Timer. Now, tap on the Camera button. After the countdown, Snapchat will start recording for the set duration.

Method 3: Using Gestures on iPhone
Your iPhone comes with pre-fed gestures that allow you to perform basic tasks such as long-pressing or double-tapping. You can set a custom duration for the long-press gesture and use it to record hands-free on Snapchat. Follow the below steps to do it.
I. Change Long-Press Duration
Step 1: Open Settings and tap on Accessibility. Scroll down and tap on Touch.
Step 2: Then, tap on AssistiveTouch. Here, turn the AssistiveTouch toggle on.
Step 3: Under Custom Actions, tap on Long Press. Then, tap on Long Press Duration.
Step 4: Now, use the – and + buttons to increase or decrease the long press duration.
Once the gesture duration has been set, it is now time to use it with the Snapchat app. Here’s how.
Part 2: Use the Gesture
Step 1: Open Snapchat and tap on AssistiveTouch. Once the menu options appear, tap on Custom.
Step 2: Here, tap on Long Press. Now, hover the gesture over the Camera button. This should start the recording.
Tip: Android users can take a rubber band and slide it over either of the volume buttons. Then, open the Snapchat app to record without using your hands on Snapchat.
