2 Ways to Fix Apple Photos Not Showing Shared Albums

Quick Tips
  • Check if the Shared Albums feature is enabled for the Photos app. Go to Settings > Photos > enable Shared Albums.
  • Check iPhone storage space. If you have low storage, you won’t be able to check your photos. Go to Settings > iPhone Storage.
  • Check if the iCloud link has expired. If yes, ask for a new one from your contact.

Basic Fixes

  • Check Apple server status: You can visit Apple’s official System Status support page to check if the Photos app is facing any issue in the backend.
  • Use the correct Apple ID: If you have switched the primary SIM from an iPhone to an Android phone, you don’t receive shared album invitations in the Photos app. You need to share your Apple account ID with the recipient to receive the media album.
  • Check internet connection: Ensure that you have a strong internet connection to view all your Shared Albums across devices.
  • Update iOS: Installing the latest version of iOS depending on your iPhone model can also solve this issue.

Fix 1: Enable Shared Albums

The feature itself needs to be enabled on your iPhone. Here’s how to check the same.

Step 1: Open the Settings app on your iPhone and then select Photos.

Step 2: Enable the Shared Albums toggle.

If the option is already enabled, turn it off and close the Settings app. You can now move to the home page and wait a few minutes. Now head to Settings and open Photos. Enable the same toggle, and you are good to go.

You can launch the Photos app on your iPhone and look for the shared album invitation in the ‘For You’ tab.

Fix 2: Check Phone Space

By default, iOS mirrors the shared album on your phone. It doesn’t take up any significant space. You need to save media files individually on your phone.

Step 1: Open the Settings app and then scroll to General.

Step 2: Select iPhone Storage and then check the detailed space breakdown from the following menu.

  1. I send an invitation to a shared album to a person, but a window pops up in which it says that invitations to a shared album cannot be sent to this number. What does this person need to fix in his settings so that we can send him invitations?
