You can block your friend or a family member and stop them from sending a group invitation on Facebook. However, it’s a harsh solution and may impact your friendship or relationship with the person. Instead, you can chat with the person and gently request them to stop sending invitations to join a group.

Join and Leave a Group

Did you have a chat with your friend and still end up getting an invitation to join a group? You can temporarily join a group and leave it after a while to never receive alerts.

Facebook Desktop

Step 1: Visit Facebook in a browser and sign in with your account details.

Step 3: Open your recently joined group. Click Joined at the top-right corner.

Step 5: Enable the toggle next to ‘Prevent people from inviting you to join this group again’ and confirm your decision to leave the group.

If you want to remain a part of a group without seeing any update on the home feed, select Unfollow group. You can manage your group notifications from the same menu.

Facebook Mobile

If you use Facebook on iPhone or Android, go through the steps below to leave a group permanently and stop the admin from sending an invitation to join a group. Here’s what you need to do.

Step 1: Launch the Facebook app on your phone.

Step 2: Go to your profile and open Groups.

Step 3: Select a group and tap Joined.

Step 4: Select Leave group. Tap More options.

Step 5: Tap ‘Leave Group Permanently.’

Block the Person

If the person hasn’t learned the lesson and keeps sending you invitations to join a group, block them. Follow the steps below to make changes.

Step 1: Open Facebook and go to a person’s profile.

Step 2: Tap the three horizontal dots menu and select Block from the following menu.

Facebook-owned Instagram lets you create group chats. However, if you notice being a part of random groups on Instagram, use the steps below to change your privacy settings. With these tweaks, only people you follow on Instagram can add you to a group.

Step 1: Open Instagram on your phone and tap your profile icon at the bottom-right corner.

Step 2: Tap the hamburger menu in the top-right corner and open Settings and privacy.

Step 3: Scroll to Messages and story replies.

Step 4: Tap Message controls.

Step 5: Select ‘Who can add you to groups.’ Tap the radio button beside ‘Only People You Follow on Instagram.’

Can I Stop People From Adding Me to Groups on Messenger

Unfortunately, there is no way to stop your friends and family members from adding you to a group on Messenger. You need to unfriend or block the person to stop the behavior.
